Pre-Heisenberg Saul is a far cry from the slick, confident shyster we’ve come to know. Here he’s a disheveled, sad sack public defender just barely scraping by with an office is in the back room of a nail salon and a canary yellow Suzuki.
Broad City has deliberate looseness that seems to be a result of its web series roots. It’s not sloppy, but it does have an effortless vibe that matches the carefree attitude of its two leads.
Kroll and company understand the rhythms and beats of the world they’re lampooning in a way that can only come from people who have fully immersed themselves in the material. For as trashy as reality TV is, “Kroll Show” acknowledges that we all still kind of love it — if only because it makes our lives look better by comparison.
Girls is not a show I particularly love. Unlike other series, I don’t google casting updates between seasons, or spend inordinate amounts of time discussing it with friends or on social media. It still a good show, a great show even. It’s smart, funny, emotional, and, at times, surprising.
So far season six appears to be a return to basics. After last’s season’s ambitious storyline, the season six premier feels much smaller in scope. That’s not a bad thing.
