Not quite muppetational: ABC’s ‘The Muppets’ struggles to capture the joy of its characters

Bummer is a good word for much of what I’ve seen so far from The Muppets. The series is lacks the joyfulness, optimism and offbeat feel that made “The Muppet Show,” the early films, and even Jason Segel’s 2011 The Muppets film such a delight. That joy is largely absent here.

Dating games: ‘You’re the Worst’ is a darker kind of rom-com

You’re the Worst, which just kicked off its second season on FX, falls squarely into the non-rom-com category. Game time: ‘The League’ kicks off its final season

Baring it all: The raw, subtle comedy of Tig Notaro

2012 wasn’t a great year for Tig Notaro. In short order, the up-and-coming standup comedian was diagnosed with C. diff. (a rare digestive disorder), her mother died, she went through a breakup, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a bilateral mastectomy. Not exactly fertile ground for comedy.
